What’s wrong with McCain?

January 25, 2008

I’ve had a few people including my parents ask me why I don’t like John McCain. I don’t think I really even need to spell it out…After you watch the second video, I think you’ll know. The first video is from the Miss Teen USA pageant in 2007. The second is a little mash up with some McCain added in.

Over the past year or so I’ve gone through some positive changes. Some things I used to swear by are all but gone from my life. I don’t know how I did it, but I guess after thinking it through logically I somehow decided that I would be better off in the long run.

Television. I used to watch quite a bit of TV, either while I was on my computer, or otherwise, and now my weekly TV consumption is MAYBE 2 hours. Heroes for one hour and some other random stuff for the other. I have come to my senses and realized that for the most part, television is a waste of time. You aren’t better off after sitting down and watching the average 2.6 hours of TV per day.

Soft drinks. I used to be the biggest Dr. Pepper fan in the world. Two years ago, my freshman year of college, my roommate and I collected so many Dr. Pepper cans in about a month that we made a 4 foot tall Dr. Pepper can pyramid. Ever since sometime last summer, I have basically only drank water, juice, and milk. I also used to drink a lot of energy drinks. I haven’t had one in over 6 months.

Chewing gum. I used to be obsessed with Orbit chewing gum. I was first introduced to it my sophomore year of high school, and I got addicted. I went through about a pack a week, or more. That adds up over a long period of time. $2 per week x 52 weeks x 4 years = $400. That’s $400 I could have used to buy gas for a year. I barely chew any now, all that aspartame can’t be good for you.

I’m looking forward to some more positive changes in the future, some are taking shape now…I’m learning how to cook and my eating out has significantly declined. It has already saved me some money and if I keep it up, it’s going to save me boatloads of cash and I’ll gain some skills to boot. If you need any advice in dropping some of your “bad” habits, shoot me a comment.

Haha, I just read this crazy post on the Dota forums that talks about all the rejected old heroes. It’s hilarious. I wish there was some version of Dota where you could somehow play all of them.

Excerpt:

“Hailing from the magical land of 1mb4, Kael, having forsaken his duty to the comparatively pitiful Illidan and the Burning Legion, decided to join up with the Scourge forces to wipe, once and for all, the Sentinel forces off the face of the Earth. Unlike most heroes, who have only four spells/passives, Kael, being the singular most powerful hero ever, has a massive inventory of 31, that’s right thirty-one, spells. Through Exort, Wex, Quas, the Invoker generates 27 different spell, coupled with his original four, makes 31.”

A guy named BuffMePlz took the newly released [good] 6.48b Dota AI map and added all the new items and balance fixes. So now we don’t have to play 6.43 if we want to play comps.

Number One Gun

January 22, 2008

Both of these videos are MUST watches! They are both of Jeff Schneeweis, the sole member of Number One Gun. He’s probably the most multi-talented guy I’ve ever seen. The first one is an acoustic version of “Bad Habits” and the second is the music video for “Wake Me Up”. The second one is extra-sweet because it shows him playing guitar AND drums (not at the same time).

UBC podcast

My church has a podcast of their sermons every week.

To subscribe to it in iTunes, open up iTunes. Go to the Advanced menu, and click ‘Subscribe to podcast’, then paste the following address in:

http://web.mac.com/jon_davis1/Site/Podcast/rss.xml

Then click OK, and it should subscribe to it, which means it will download the most recent sermon then download all of the ones in the future automatically. Cool to have on your iPod if you’re on a long trip or something.

To all the naysayers

Well kids, the results are in. And they are in fact surprising. Despite previous reports of the maladies video games cause, like arson, violence, and anti-social behavior, a study (although most likely made up) shows that video games do have benefits

Only 3 more hours. I’ll make it. Then to the center of the universe I go, with my trusty friend Mario, to save Peach from a fat turtle with spikes.
