Changing life for the better

January 24, 2008

Over the past year or so I’ve gone through some positive changes. Some things I used to swear by are all but gone from my life. I don’t know how I did it, but I guess after thinking it through logically I somehow decided that I would be better off in the long run.

Television. I used to watch quite a bit of TV, either while I was on my computer, or otherwise, and now my weekly TV consumption is MAYBE 2 hours. Heroes for one hour and some other random stuff for the other. I have come to my senses and realized that for the most part, television is a waste of time. You aren’t better off after sitting down and watching the average 2.6 hours of TV per day.

Soft drinks. I used to be the biggest Dr. Pepper fan in the world. Two years ago, my freshman year of college, my roommate and I collected so many Dr. Pepper cans in about a month that we made a 4 foot tall Dr. Pepper can pyramid. Ever since sometime last summer, I have basically only drank water, juice, and milk. I also used to drink a lot of energy drinks. I haven’t had one in over 6 months.

Chewing gum. I used to be obsessed with Orbit chewing gum. I was first introduced to it my sophomore year of high school, and I got addicted. I went through about a pack a week, or more. That adds up over a long period of time. $2 per week x 52 weeks x 4 years = $400. That’s $400 I could have used to buy gas for a year. I barely chew any now, all that aspartame can’t be good for you.

I’m looking forward to some more positive changes in the future, some are taking shape now…I’m learning how to cook and my eating out has significantly declined. It has already saved me some money and if I keep it up, it’s going to save me boatloads of cash and I’ll gain some skills to boot. If you need any advice in dropping some of your “bad” habits, shoot me a comment.
